Psychologists

Katrina Sheraton-Yu (BA Psych Hons Dip. Ed) is a psychologist and experienced teacher with over 14 years experience working with children and their families. Katrina has worked as a psychologist in hospital, school and private practice settings as well as having taught both primary and secondary students across a range of educational settings.  

Katrina has a particular interest in the assessment and management of learning and behavioural difficulties such as; intellectual disability, developmental delay, autism spectrum disorder, dyslexia, dyscalculia, attention deficit disorders (ADHD) and oppositional defiance disorder. She is also experienced in assessing and working with gifted children. Katrina also has a special interest in how a child’s self-esteem and emotional well-being can affect their learning and behaviour at school and home. She is trained in a range of counselling techniques and psychological therapies to address low self-esteem, anxiety, depression and grief in children.

Assessments

A range of cognitive, academic, behavioural and emotional assessments are provided to pre-school and school aged children and adolescents.  

The assessment process will help identify a child’s strengths and weaknesses and help teachers and parents better understand the cause and nature of the difficulties a child is having academically or socially at school. The assessment process may also be used to screen and diagnose s number of conditions such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD, specific learning difficulties and Autism Spectrum Disorder.

  • Behaviour (including attention / ADHD)

Counselling

A range of evidence based counselling techniques and psychological therapies may be used to empower children and their families to overcome and manage low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, behavioural difficulties and other emotional barriers to maximise the child’s ability and enable them to reach their potential.    

Academic Intervention

Katrina offers comprehensive literacy and numeracy intervention programs which may include;

  • Academic assessment to identify a student’s strengths and areas of need
  • Creation of individualised literacy and/or numeracy programs to be done at the clinic or at home with parents or an external tutor
  • Implementation and/or monitoring or tutoring programs  
  •    

Consulting and Case Management

Katrina offers comprehensive case management and consulting services for children with learning difficulties or complex chronic health conditions. Katrina works with a child’s parents, school and other health professionals to create and implement a holistic management plan to best meet their educational, social and emotional needs.  

Group Social Skills, Emotional Regulation and Self-Esteem Programs

A range of small group programs are offered to improve the social and emotional regulation skills of school aged children.
